On September 28th 2016, we had the honor of welcoming special guests from our partner city Philadelphia, USA at our school. Among them were Councilman Al Taubenberger, Ms. Sandberg of Temple University, Ms. Kohler-Reed, and David Kipphut. During a lively discussion round, students of grade 9d, E- and Q-phase were able to ask our guests many questions about their careers, our sister city and US culture in general.
Two days later, the US Consulate hosted their annual German-American Friendship Day at the Tower Café in Bonames and our principal as well as a number of students from grade 9d were invited to join the festivities. Beside the official program of cordial speeches by Mayor Peter Feldmann and others, watching Councilman Al Taubenberger perform the Whip/Nae Nae along with a student dance group was a fun experience.
The official partnership between Frankfurt and Philadelphia started in 2015, when Michael Nutter, former mayor of Philadelphia, traveled to Frankfurt to formally seal the agreement with Mayor Feldmann at the impressive Emperor Hall of the “Römer”. Class 9d, Mr. Kühnberger, Ms. Henderson and Ms. Dorresteijn were able to join this extraordinary event.
All in all, we had a great time getting to know our visitors from Philadelphia, learning more about the US and practicing our English. Now, we are really looking forward to a possible student exchange program with Philadelphia in the future.
